Grandfather Mountain Trout Farm

This is a first for me; I am writing about food today! Our lunch this past Monday consisted of boiled potatoes, corn and delicious smoked freshwater trout my husband and son caught themselves at Grandfather Mountain Trout Farm. Never before had we fished on a "farm" so everything felt different: no catch and release and no waiting for hours for the fish to bite . Throughout the farm, signs read "You Keep What You Catch." Therefore, the we have enough fish to last a lifetime, so let's go replaced the usual all day stress free fishing adventure.

I had never eaten smoked trout before, so I have nothing to compare it to,but it was absolutely delicious. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend that you stop by the Grandfather Mountain Trout Farm. No equipment needed; the farm provides it all: bait, rods and buckets. The folks there will even clean and then smoke your fish in a few hours. While you wait, you can do a little gem mining or shopping at their gem and jewelry store.

  3. Hi Geoffrey

Yes we are having a great time...thank you.

    Hello Heather

My younger son is a very very intense and passionate child...as you can see. He had a ball at the farm.

  4. Smoked trout would be scrumptious! Not that I've eaten any, but I do know smoked salmon. That leads me to believe that trout might be even better.

  5. I haven't had trout in years. The smoked trout sounds delicious.
Your son reminds me so much of my boys at that age. They both loved fishing and the great outdoors and still do!

I know you all are having a wonderful and peaceful time. I bet a cooler(weather) time too!

    Take care.

  6. Chuck and Pam...the trout was slow cooked in some kind of large outdoor contraption using some kind of special firewood...you can tell I am well informed on the ways of the High Country. :>) But when the gentleman at the farm brought our pieces down from the "contraption" the crowd that was looking on cheered in awe. The whole experience made my day a great one. If either of you is ever in Western North Carolina, stop by this place.
