Flowers along the Blue Ridge Parkway

These flowers bloom everywhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway. They measure about an inch in diameter and sprinkle the ground with a beautiful purplish color. Does anyone know what they are called?

These flowers are everywhere as well. These plants grow taller and have a yellow flower, but they are about the same size as the ones above. Any idea what these are called?

  1. I need a professional camera..and some lessons. Please see the amazing photos I found of wild flowers on http://blueridgewildflowers.blogspot.com/

  2. Wild clover Mar...look closely at the plants and you will see that they have the same 'three leaf' characteristics as the domesticated kind found in your own back yard. It's just that instead of being mown down, this beauty is allowed to freely propagate and wander at will. Beautiful! ~Nards

BTW: Purple is my favorite color.

  3. Summer wildflowers are so beautiful, aren't they? I'm not familiar with flowers from your area so I won't be much help identifying them. does your camera have a macro setting (it doesn't have to be a professional camera to have one). I find that helps with delicate closeups.

  4. Hi! I'm pretty sure it's Red Clover--a terrific ground cover, good for the soil, and wonderful for bees to nectar on.

  5. A clover it is! Thanks folks...now how about the yellow one? And Patti...I will look at the camera settings more closely. I usually just point and shoot but I am sure my little digital camera has features I may never find. However, I will look for that macro feature...thanks!

  6. Well, I agree with you there, flowers bloom everywhere and sometimes they called it wild flowers. I also enjoyed seeing wild flowers along the road. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your post. It makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing!
