Just Think About It (Part I)

Indulge me for a moment. Try to remember when you were six or seven. Do you remember where you lived? Who was your first real friend and what was your favorite toy? What did you dream about when you were all alone? Did you dream about flying like superman, being a major league baseball player or being a dancer, a singer or an actor? How free and amazing was your imagination, your innocence, your ability to imagine that anything could be possible? Think about these questions for a moment before you continue reading.


Fast forward to your early teenage years when you were thirteen or fourteen. Who were your friends then and who did you admire, respect and love? Did you live in the same home? Were your amazing dreams still the same and was anything still possible? Did you think of the future and what you would be and what you would have someday?


Now, come back to the present. Are those friends still around? Have you moved? Who do you love and respect today? Has life been good to you or has life treated you unkindly? Most importantly, are those dreams, those amazing dreams of anything being possible, still somewhere in your soul, in your heart and on your mind or have you buried them away never to be found again? Today, do you believe that anything is still possible?


Unfortunately, as we get older many of us forget to dream, to question and to believe in possibilities. Sadly, some individuals live everyday breathing, walking ---waiting to die. Others search for a purpose, adventure and the courage to chase a dream.


I want you to think and think deeply before you answer my final questions. What will you leave on this earth when your feet no longer touch the sand, the grass or the busy streets? Everyday when you awake and take that first conscious breath, do you know what you live for? Is your path and your goal clear in your mind? The most important question is do you still dream?

Between the ages of 6and7 I grew up with my mother and my great grandmother which raised me and al my other cousins n my younger sister.To be honest with you I never really had a real friend to call mine I never really considered anyone as my friend just my colleague or socials.Ive never dreamed about anything ever unless I can't remember then that'll probably be another situation but even now at the age of 19 I hardly ever dream,to me I don't think dreaming up things is a good idea you dream about the things you want happening to you but sometimes it really doesn't occur.My imagination of being free would have to be with me wanting to get away from every one else.Let's just say I'd hang around the wrong crowd but I guess you can suffer the consequenses,I admired just one person my bestfriend which I grew up with she is the only person that I would actually call my friend she's like a sister to me we act just a like sometimes good and sometimes bad.She's the only one still around and the only one i talk to and trust although she left back to queens,newyork we still keep in contact.The only person I would ever love and respect especially today would be GOD he's really the only person in my life right now and will always be.When I was younger I had the worst life ever but then again now that im growing up I sort of like my life at the moment so I don't think i want to lose my life.Finally what i would leave on this earth when my feet touch the ground would be all my love i brought to my loved ones and all the hatred to my enemies but this goes to show that you should keep your friends close and your enemies even closer because youre enemies usually turn to be your true friend and I've learned personally.And i live for myself and the ones who care for me.Yes my past and my goal is clear in my mind.I never dream.

  3. Bianca, I believe to DREAM is a good thing. Dreaming can help you visualize the things you want to achieve. When you can SEE these possibilities and FEEL them, you provide yourself a map, a path and a way. Yes, it hurts when you fail if you see failure as final. If, however, you see that one failure is a step or a lesson, then you can embrace the faiure and use it to your benefit. Avoiding the failure or avoiding the DREAM does not make us happier or stronger; I believe it makes us weaker and more fearful. Many have given their lives for a DREAM (Martin Luther King Jr, Benazir Bhutto, Abraham Lincoln, U.S. soldiers, Haitan and Cuban refugees over the Florida straits and countless others.) If nothing else, remember that always, and if you get the chance to dream, I hope you dream.....MCueto

  4. I used to dream until every one kept saying this is the real world now. I don't like to dwell on the past cause if you live in the past then you never know what tomorrow may bring. Now that i've read this it makes you think just besauce something was important to you then it might not be impportant to you now. Some of the friend that i consider as my bestfriend as a child i don't evven remember them. i remember when i was little i would take my mom white shirt and pretend to be a Doctor that was my dream my goal.. I love to help people. i was one of thoes kids that were going to be a Doctor/Actor/Sintist/Mommy/The Queen.(laugh out loud) come to find out i really don't want to be none of that. I still love helping people but teaching is my calling.I still dream but i guess it's just not withso much imagination. I really did enjoy reading your blog it really made me think.

GREAT PASSAGE WHEN I READ THE ENDING IT MAKES YOU GO BACK TO THE THOUGHT OF APPRECIATING WHO U LOVE AND WHAT U GOT IN LIFE.AS YOU GROW UP ALOT OF THINGS CHANGE OR MAYBE HAVEN'T BUT ITS WHAT U LEARN OUT OF IT MAKES U GREATER..PEOPLE SOMETIMES ASK ME WHY ARE U ALWAYS HAPPY..I USUALLY SAY BECUASE I WOKE UP DIS MORNING. BUT ITS REALLY WHAT I BEEN THROUGH IN THE PAST WHAT ACTUALLY MADE ME REALIZE THERE IS A PURPOSE IN LIFE..LOL

  7. Yes. I do still dream I never stop dreaming, or I would not have came back to school this is one important dream that I have to accomplish.
    In my life I always want more, and that is something I cannot help. All that I achieve is, because of dreaming, and making it a reality. I am not satisfied until I get what I want.
    One of my many dreams is to own my home, and that day came all because of a dream. The day I closed on my new home it became a reality.
    The other part of my dream is to buy my dream car which is BMW 750, and to start back traveling, so far I have gone to England, Bahamas, Cancun Mexico, and Costs Rica, after Graduating from College I want to go to Rome, South Africa Abuja, Nigeria and Cape town that is my ultimate dream; because it cost a lot to travel their; also I will need a good paying job to achieve that. The bottom line is you must always have a dream for your self that is the only way you will be happy. Your dream it will make you work hard to achieve what you want, and Just remember the sky is the limited you can reach for the stars it belong too you; you just have to have a concrete plan how you will achieve it.
    So for those people who don’t dream please start it is never too late all your life you do dream you dont realized it. If you think about it try to remember as far back as you can, and see how much of the things that you ask for how much did you receive. If you see some thing that you want it is a dream; because you don’t have it, but you would work hard to get it so technical you are dreaming the only thing now is that you have to dream big and not little you just have to believe in your self.

  8. Since the semester started I love your class, I love the way you teach. Encourages me to focus on what I want in my life. About this blog the only thing I can think is nothing is like it used to be, everything has changed. So far I have learned not to give up,to keep fighting for my succes and accomplish all my goals.

  10. It is good to remember, analyze, re-evaluate and question. Clarifying for yourself what you want or what you need is important and quite valuable, for it focusses your energy and provides you with the needed strength to persevere.

  12. I'm not sure what's gonna happend in 5 years from know with my life. What I do know is that I like to think that life can be too shore, and thats when I realize that I have to do what I like and what I love. I always dream, and for that reason Im still alive. Because everything is possible if we really want it.

  13. That really made me think,When I was a kid everthing was wondeful with my mom and dad, but as I got older life took a drastic change.I could honestly say that my dreams have changed. Now my major focus are my kids the day I am not in this world a peace of me will stay with both of them. I dream on the day my kids have their goal acomplished.

  17. Hey miss you know this passage makes me think about all the things that happen to me as a chld and how perfect my childhood life was before my sisters got married. And yes I am a traveller just like you. I went to England, paris, LA Chicago, NY, Denver, and the middle east. but the place i love to go to is england cause i have family there. and yea we have travel in common. that is one of my passion to travel the world.

    I lived in Ecuador in a very comfortable apartment. My first real friend was Marcela, one of the nicest gild I have ever met. My favorite toy was a medium size puffy Lion King and 2 horses one was white and the other one was brown. I dreamed about having a really big…big…big house under the sea with a big pool inside, that was full of dolphins, horses running around free coming to me for some carrots and apples, and a friendly lion family.


    As a teenager I moved to NY I met a new best friend named Lisa. Let me tell you I used to talk so much about my mother how proud I was from her hard work and how happy I was to have her next to me again. At that time I really admire my mom for me she was my angel. Is really hard to keep your dream, you learn the reality of life, where you have to be a millionaire to be able to construct a big house under the sea, where lions are not friendly and are wild, dolphins cant live in a pool. Sometimes I think too much about the future and can get me really frustrated, I learned that there is only right and wrong, if you go the right way you'll be fine, you make your choices and choices make your destiny. There is something I know about my future and is that I'm going to have my two brown and white horses the ones I always dream about.

    I moved to Miami, I met new friends there not my best, but there really good friends. I love and try to respect every person that I know. Everybody is so different and I love that!!! Life has been really good to me, I'm healthy, and I have people to love and people that love me, I eat every day (brain and stomach). Yes somewhere in my soul I believe that one day I'm going to have my house under the sea, but this time with a family.Every day of my life I try helping others, I will like to make a difference in the world and yet I don't know how I am going to do it but Ill find the way. If I no longer exist I will like to be recognized as the reaches person not from money, but reaches in soul and heart.For now I'm trying to find out who I what to be for the rest of my life, I now who am I inside, but what I don't know is how am I going to be called as, may be Doctor Denise or Homeless Denise…who knows, but one thing that no one can ever name is my dreams…I will always dream!!!

  19. I believe that there is no such thing as a person who does not dream. I think we all have a bit of a dreamer in us. If no one dreamed of new things, exciting and happy things then you would be at home doing nothing. Most people who have hobbies, go to school, enjoy doing something with their time have a dream. It might not be as extravagant as ones you had when you were very young but they are still dreams. I love to better my self. One of my dreams is to be the best person that I can be. I am determined to reach those dreams as best as I can. I enjoyed this blog. I feel that it is missing something... what are your dreams?

  20. Danielle, you have written a great piece. I love the quote; it is perfect. I will write an article that answers your question in detail, but in short I want you to know that I am always dreaming of my little piece of heaven in the mountains. I close my eyes and smell the trees and grass. I close my eyes and see the stars to the west over the mountains. I close my eyes and see the deer and turkey cross my driveway. I close my eyes and see my children building a treehouse in the woods. I dream of the day I will sit on my porch swing with a cup of coffee in my hand as the sun rises and the temperature outside is a mild 50 degrees. My dreams have to do with living great, not just living. **Living great means having the people I love with me.

  21. When I was 6, I remember that long ago even further than 6. My dreams of leaving a country to help the rest of my famaly by playing baseball in the U.S.A. I still have the hope to reunite my famaly one day and laugh together again. My dreams have developed but not changed. I continue to play baseball and attend shchool.I continue to dream but more important i continue to set goals to reach my dreams.

    I enjoyed reading this article a lot. It brought a lot of memories. When I was 9 years old I dreamed that I wanted to be an actress. Unfortunally in Cuba you are not aloud to dream, so is something that I never accomplish. Then I started high school, and we were a group of 5 girls. One of them is still my BFF, she is in Cuba though. We keep in touch with each other most of the time. I came to this country, and I have now a wonderful family, a different house. The most important thing is that I still dream about what I want for my future, and in this magnificent country I am going to accomplish my dream. It has nothing to do with art, this time is something totally different. I own my life, I can do everything.

Hello!ms Cueto if i start telling you my past i would have a lot to say. but to make the story short.when i was 9 my father pass away.my mother who is a hard working have to raise four of us.Because she is a business woman she have to travel from different places, i have to raise with aunt and uncle so because of that i have been throug a lot.i remember my uncle rape me when i was 15 and told me if told he is going to kill both of us,so ihave to keep it secrets.since that i feel like my life is over sometimes i live like there is no tomorrow,but after reading your blog i feel like life is not really over for me and my dreams will come true one day.

    For me, I think christmas it the best month of the year becuase on 24/25 you don't have to go to work so, the only things I can do it get together with my family so we can talk about every thing that going throw our live. Also christmas it not a time to exchange give gifts and, it a time to get together with your family members sometimes it can be friends too but, not any type of friends it have to be the one, once you having problems so, that friends can be there to help get over everything.

    hello! Cueto do be honest I never dream about something specific, but i really want to be something and make all my family proud of me so i have to do what ever i can do to satisfy them. My past was very sad because my dad was not there to help me with anything. My mom was the one who actually did everything for me, she is my angel, i want everybody honor their mom during they still alive.

    I can’t consciously remember everything from the five or six years of my life,but the fact is that I had a very happy childhood until the war in Kosovo began. I was 15 years old. Until then I dreamed to become a famous actress in Hollywood; however, the war changed my life in the negative sense. I lost many humans, whom I loved one of them was my father the most important human being in my life. He died in a cardiac infraction. Our house was total destroyed. Now I have nothing that connect me to my childhood. I have no pictures when I was a baby, because they all are burned, but that is only a memory in my heart which always remain. Although I went through all these things, I still have dreams. I dream to be a doctor special a surgeon, and I will do everything to achieve my dreams. I still believe that one day the sun will rise up to meet me.

As earliest as I can recall concerning my childhood; I was born and raised here in Miami, fl. being the baby of thirteen children, theres was always something exciting for me to do. for example, I loved to relay phone messages to my brother from a girl who had called repeatedly that very same day; while he engages into a phone conversation with another girl all at once. that was hilarious, but my duty as the baby of the household. He then, nick-named me Penny Daniels I had an never-ending imagination. My dreams of becoming a writer was a constant thought. I was at the tender age of eight years old when my family and i realized my passion for writing. Although I had many siblings, they secluded themselves from me because of my age and my "reporting."HaHahahahahaha........As a result to feeling lonesome; I began to put my thoughts on paper and wrote many short stories. I categorize my writing as mysterious, horrorifying, dramatic. I was influenced by many legendary writers; such as, steven king, steven spielberg and even R.L. Stine. I then decided that writing/directing was my destiny.

    I think about my childhood a lot. I think It was very interesting and made me a person I am, a big dreamer and adventures lover. :) You are right... It seems sometimes that the older we are the dimmer are our feelings... But there is the way to bright them up, we only have to WANT it.
    I wish I could express better in english, so I could translate little story about my childhood...

Mrs.Cueto, i think about what i want people to remember me for almost everyday ! i think i would want to convey a message that anything is possible if you believe in yourself ,as well as, if other believe in you ! i would want people to remember me as a kind , sincere, humbled , goofy ,yet intelligent woman ! your fears are always an obstacle that you can overcome ... your brave !! :)
