I have found some of these shrubs/trees on our property in North Carolina, but I have no idea what they are called. Does anyone know?
Can you eat the berries?
We found a large tree at the bottom of the mountain that still had red berries on it. Could it be part of the same family?
I appreciate any hints to get me started on my search. :)

It's from the cherry family. I don't know if the berries are edible, but the leaves are similar to the cherry laurel that grows here in NYS. Maybe that will help you along in your hunt.
ReplyDeleteHi Mrs. Mecomber
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hint. I will begin my research with the laurel.
This might be a Carolina Buckthorn ... and if that's the case, the berries can be toxic ...
ReplyDeleteI found your blog through a comment you posted at Bilingual in the Boonies ... great blog!! I will be following your blog.
I wish you well :) Melek

Thanks Melek..for the heads up on the Carolina Buckhorn and for finding your way here. I like the quote you used above and the Emerson one on your profile page. I too have an Emerson quote posted on my college website--

Wishing you many good things as well. :>)
