Where did the time go?

If you are not from South Florida, allow me to define what we mean by "a dip in temperatures." When the temperatures reach 70 degrees Fahrenheit, we refer to the weather as "cool." When temperatures fall to 55 degrees Fahrenheit, we refer to the weather as "cold" so cold in fact that my students wear gloves, scarfs, polar jackets and hoods and they still complain.

After a busy fall semester, one that has flown by so quickly, and a dip in the temperatures this week, I am growing more and more homesick. Yep! The mountains are calling me!!! Just a few days ago, a meteorologist on the Weather Channel reported snow in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Well, that was enough to send my husband, the boys and me all searching for our sweaters, coats, ski pants and boots. Plans are in the works for a white Christmas this year.

Even though I am not posting regularly due to time constraints, projects and other commitments, I appreciate your visits and kind messages.

  1. Hi dear Mar, I too am running way behind due to work deadlines. But thought I'd at least stop over and say "hi". I laughed over this post because I grew up in Maine where temps could drop to -50 to -70 with windchill factor and I was very used to the cold. BUT then after years in the tropics, I am like your students...even here in New Mexico. I bundle up so much I look like a blimp. I kind you not. I have no cold tolerance. I also relate to being homesick, but not for Maine or even the rainforest, but for time alone in Nature.

I've had little time for hiking and I miss it so deeply that some days I grieve. I just remind myself that my time is coming when I can return to the wild quiet places.

Know that you are in my thoughts...always.
Hugs to you, and I hope you and all of yours are well...escaping this flu going around.
    Blessings,
    Robin

  2. We had a record low last night either down in the high 30's or low 40's. I was surprised, as I didn't expect to get to wear my scarf and winter boots way down here.

  3. The semester for me as gone by quickly, too. Sometimes it is cold whereas it is warmer on the other days. Nevertheless, I am glad that the semester is soon to end. 8 more days of classes left and a good Christmas break. I am glad that next week is Thanksgiving. Party time!

  4. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. It's good to see you posting again. I lived in the mountains of East Tennessee before moving to Vermont and I can understand why you are anxious to spend Christmas there. It is a beautiful part of the world.

  5. The weather dipped to 26 degrees here today. We are torn between the mountains and the sea. Both are calling us at the same time. We've got a few plans ourselves (although I do not blog about them). Hope all is well and that all your winter dreams of hills and snow come true. Like you, I hardly get to visit many blogs these days. Good to stop by.... - Nards
